Hello world.

It’s me, Payam, your friend, ally, and supporter.

Today, I want to talk about a companion of mine that so many of us share.

This companion is anxiety.

Now, you may be thinking, “Wait, don’t talk about that.”

This event is all about what we are proud of.

But that’s exactly what I'm here to do.

Talk about a piece that many of us try to hide and hope that we can proudly embrace it.

Anxiety.

My dark friend, that lurks under the crevices in my life.

I see you and I step into you.

Anxiety.

You startle those around me when my body animates your presence.

I embrace you as I learn to dance with you.

Anxiety.

You disturb my routine, causing me to become fully present in the moment.

Through you, I’ve learned to listen to my body.

To slow down and notice the mundane.

To feel the ground beneath my feet.

Anxiety.

I hope to have taught you, too.

I hope my presence has taught you trust.

I hope my strength has shown you resilience.

I hope my ability to move through you has eased your denseness.

Together, we can learn to think without the other.

To be without the other.

To trust without the other.

And when that day comes, I'll thank you as I say goodbye.

But until then, I’ll continue to embrace you.

My teacher. My friend.
